Fred Segelken, 86, passed away Thursday January 31st, 2013 at 1:45am in Aurora, CO.
Fred was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 30th, 1926. He was the only son of the late Frederick Henry Segelken and Matilda Grace (Kemper) Segelken. He graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1944. Following high school, he spent 2 years in the US Navy where he served on the USS Tortuga. Upon Honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Bachelor degree in Business Administration.
Fred married Peggy (Margaret Lavern DeSilver) on November 19, 1948. They lived in Cincinnati until 1996 when they moved to Hendersonville, NC. From 1993 until 2002, they enjoyed a winter home in Parrish, FL. In November of 2010, they moved to St. Andrew's Village in Aurora, CO.
Fred worked most of his career in the family businesses at Pickering Hardware and DeSilver Realty. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated a Big Red Q printing franchise. Fred's hobbies were woodworking, photography and gardening. He also hosted many leisurely evenings and weekends with friends and family on his houseboat. He always got pleasure from a good game of bridge, pinochle, poker or cribbage and looked forward to a profitable visit to the casino.
Fred is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy; 2 children, George (Lorrie) and Patty (Gary McErlane); 4 grandchildren, Michael (Mary Beth), Dave, Jen, and Liz (Doug Bishop); 1 great-granddaughter, Sophie.
