Riggs, Gail Lee (Stoelzel)
Born on September 13, 1961, a 5th generation native, to Carl L Stoelzel and Jean Strock. Survived by her husband John Riggs, and sister Lynn (David) Perry and brother Mark (Monika) Stoelzel, Maggie (Art) Riggs Olson, Lynnae (William) Riggs Dunham and numerous nieces and nephews.
John and Gail were married in May of 2001 at Hudson Gardens.
Gail was always active in sports and music. She was state champion in Handball and was ranked 13th among women in the country. She loved to ski and shared that love with many friends. She loved to bike, hike, garden, entertain and her dogs. She loved to make things for others and there are untold ceramic pieces in the world with her name on them, as well as numerous afghans.
Gail graduated from CSU in 1978 with a degree in Geology. She then spent time in Germany student teaching to obtain a teaching certificate. The economy forced Gail to find a job in sales where she spent her entire career.
Gail love life and people. She would be in line at a store and by the time she left she would know everything there was to know about the person in front or in back of her, sometimes both. She was always optimistic and looking for good in the world.
Her battle with cancer lasted a little over 2 ½ years. Never once did she feel sorry for herself or give up the will and hope to beat the disease. She made numerous new friends over the course of treatment and did all she could to make other people laugh and smile. She quietly lost her battle on Saturday evening, the 4th, at home with her husband and dogs with her.
Because of Gail's love of life there will be no funeral service. There will be a Celebration of Gail's Life Party held on August 17th by invitation only. Please contact John at glriggs@q.com with questions.
