Garnet M. McGill, 95, of Aurora, passed away February 28, 2016.
She was born December 26, 1920 in Sedgwick, Colorado, the daughter of John and Katherine (Bendel) Sincock. She was a graduate of Sedgwick High School. On November 11, 1945 she married Herbert McGill, of Albany, Kentucky. They soon moved to Aurora where they lived in their little pink house on Joliet St for more than 40 years. The neighborhood was filled with young families. Garnet and Herbert became a special part of each family. They loved to travel and were able to take some wonderful trips with her "best friend" and sister Marietta and husband Harry. The trips to Hawaii and Disney were two of her favorites. Garnet touched so many lives in many ways. Whether it be her love for people as a checker at Safeway or her many health care endeavors at various hospitals around Colorado, Garnet demonstrated her love for life. Garnet's interest in nursing inspired her to continue her education. She received her LPN degree at the age of 53! She loved her next 12 years of nursing at St Luke's in Denver. These years were filled with many wonderful friendships and some fantastic stories. Retirement did not slow Garnet down. She became involved with church activities at Burns United Methodist. She enjoyed her volunteer work at Aurora Interfaith Community Services where she helped organize clothing for those in need within the Aurora community. In 2002 Garnet moved into Heather Gardens where she built some new friendships and again everyone on the 2nd floor loved her! Garnet was loved by all and her positive attitude, warm smile and wonderful laugh will be missed. A memorial service will be held Sunday May 8, 2016 at Heather Gardens Clubhouse Rendezvous Restaurant from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Donations may be made in Garnet's honor to either the Colorado Humane Society (at http://coloradohumane.org/) celebrating her love for animals or to Aurora Interfaith Community Services (at http://www.aurorainterfaithcommunityservices.org/) for her love for people.
Garnet is survived by many loving family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. McGill and parents, John and Katherine Sincock.
