George C. Kane

June 22, 1932 — May 15, 2014

George Carl Kane, 81

A highly respected resident of Colorado, George Kane died on the morning of May 15th, 2014 after spending a peaceful day surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on June 22nd, 1932 in the small mining town of Kokomo, Colorado. He was the third child of four born to Harold Francis and Josephine Dorothy Kane.

He graduated from Climax High School in 1950 with a class consisting of only seven graduates.

Later that year, George met his future wife Lois Lavon Wehrman at a community dance held at a small, red schoolhouse in Poncha Springs, Colorado. Their first date was an adventurous jeep ride through the mountains. Four years later, the two were married on February 20th, 1954 in Salida, Colorado. Their faithful journey continued for over 60 memorable years.

In 1952, George enlisted into the United States Air Force. After training in Reno, Nevada he served as an Electronic Countermeasure Technician on a B-29 aircraft in the Korean War.

Upon return, George attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado from 1956 to 1960 where he majored in Metallurgical Engineering. George received a Silver Diploma and graduated at the top of his class.

His hard work and dedication helped George attain a career as a geological engineer. He advanced the oil shale industry throughout the world, which provided George with an opportunity to travel to several continents.

After establishing his career, George and Lois began a family. They had two lovely daughters, Karla and Lisa. The four spent many precious years together, as their love grew exponentially.

As time progressed, the family expanded as Lisa had three children with her husband, Cory. From hiking, skiing, and attending sporting events, some of George's most cherished moments were spending time with his family. Other great moments included time with friends, neighbors, and the members of the church.

George Kane was preceded in death by his older brother Bud, younger sister Carol, and daughter Karla. He is survived by his wife Lois, brother Bob, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Cory, and three grandchildren, Colton, Connor, and Cody.

Those who knew George will forever remember him by his stories, humor, and wisdom.

A private burial service was held by his immediate family at Golden Cemetery in Golden, Colorado on Saturday May 17th, 2014.

Thank you to all those who took part in George's life and for all of your support and care for the family.
