George Robert (Bob) Flanagan, 83, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away at home on May 12, 2012. Born May 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinos, he was the son of the late George Michael and Eva Marie Flanagan. He came to live in Colorado for a few months after his birth and resided in Lakewood for the majority of his life. He was an avid reader and a member of the Denver Art Museum, the Museum of Nature and Science along with the Denver Zoo for many years.
George graduated from Regis High School and went on to attend Regis College. After college he spent 4 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve before finding his true calling and enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. In his 20 years of service to his country, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and received numerous medals along with a Certificate of Recognition for Nomination as "Outstanding Airman of the Year." Having served faithfully and honorably he retired from the Air Force in 1971. He went on to work for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the next 35 years retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his daughters Kathleen and Patricia Flanagan, his son, Brian Flanagan and his ex-wife, Mary Ann Flanagan.
Loved and respected in life, he will be truly missed.
