Georgia Britton Hoglund, 90, of Lakewood went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
Georgia was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 24, 1923 to George and Ada Britton. She spent her adolescent and early adult years in New York City. She attended Adelphi College for two years in New York and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
In 1947, Georgia moved to Denver. She worked for the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company and lived at the YWCA. While in Denver, she met her husband-to-be, Herbert Hoglund, who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. In 1949, they married in Manchester, New Hampshire. Over the next twenty years, Herbert and Georgia were stationed in various locations around the United States including Alaska. During their travels, Georgia always took the opportunity to have the family spend many Sunday afternoons visiting historical sites and museums. While Herbert served overseas, Georgia ably maintained the family home and full responsibility for her three children. In 1968, Herbert and Georgia returned to Denver for good.
Georgia is survived by her three children: David Hoglund (Charlene) of Henderson, Nevada, Janet Hock (Evan) of Lakewood, Colorado, and Darlene Beaton (Michael) of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert.
Georgia's children and friends remember her fondly for her strong Christian faith, her love of literature, her emphasis on educational achievement, and her love of dancing. Georgia was constantly reading to her children, correcting their English papers and grammar, and playing Big Band music around the house. With her children and grandchildren, Georgia was always in the kitchen making meals and wearing one of her classic aprons.
Georgia enjoyed attending Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She was particularly fond of choral music and serving on the Altar Guild. As her children grew older, she worked part-time at the Villa Library. At the end of her life, Georgia said that her greatest joy is that all of her children, their spouses and her grandchildren each have a strong Christian faith.
Memorial gifts can be given in Georgia's name to the Children's Hunger Fund (an organization her grandchildren are involved with), www.chfus.org, 800-708-7589 or the Wellspring Foundation in support of Eaton Senior Communities where Georgia lived: 333 S. Eaton Street, Lakewood, CO 80226.
