ROPER, GILBERT I., passed away peacefully at his home in Orchard, Colorado, on January 4, 2012, in his 70th year; loving husband of 50 years with Freddie Carlena; beloved father of son, Gilbert J. and his wife Amanda; daughter Elizabeth and her husband Bruce Zemke; son, John and late son, James; proud grandfather of Jonathan, Michael, Jamie and Cole; proud grandfather and adoptive father of Anthony, Carlena and Jacob. Survived by his sister Tora and brothers, Dan and Ted; son of the late Gilbert & Tora Roper of Grand Junction, Colorado. Gilbert I. was born on July 17th, 1941. He was educated at the University of Colorado where he graduated with a Masters Degree in engineering and became a Professional Engineer, licensed in 32 states. Gilbert was founding member of the 7-24 Club and was on the Curriculum Review Board for the Colorado School of Mines. Gilbert loved boating, fishing,enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends. A visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home- East Chapel from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with the service at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2011.
