Gurnie Jordan Jr., 80, of Aurora, passed away December 19, 2016.
He was born July 7, 1936 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Gurnie and Flora (Glasgow) Jordan. He was a graduate of Alwood High School. He married Carolyn Bargar in 1958. Together they had two daughters, Julie and Jayne. Carolyn passed away in 1973. He married Shirley Bowman, of Alpha, Illinois in 1974. They added daughter Jodie to the family.
Gurnie and Shirley lived in Tuscon, Arizona for many years after his retirement from the Rock Island arsenal. Gurnie enjoyed collecting antique pocket watches, clocks and time pieces of all kinds. Gurnie also enjoyed exploring the back roads of the Arizona desert and mountains, sometimes taking unsuspecting friends and loved ones on some hair raising 4 wheel trails in his Geo tracker. Gurnie loved watching the stars through his telescope and shared his love of the night sky with his daughters. He would often take the telescope into the backyard and point out constellations, eclipses of the moon and comets. Gurnie wasn't always the most talkative guy in the room, but when he told a joke in his dry way, in his deep voice... people laughed. He will be missed by family and friends scattered throughout the country.
Gurnie is survived by his three daughters, Julie Pruett, Jayne Lamb, and Jodie Jordan; two grandchildren, Brennan Pruett and Jaime Schnowske; two great-grandchildren, Axl Schnowske and Ace Schnowske; and brother, Dennie Jordan. He is preceded in death by his wives, Carolyn Jordan and Shirley Jordan; parents, Gurnie Sr. and Flora Jordan; and sisters, Carol Jordan and Janiece Jordan.
