H. M. Hendrickson

November 26, 1920 — January 25, 2012

91 of Denver (born November 26, 1920 in Brunswick, Maine) passed away peacefully January 25, 2012. He had contracted an infection by late Sunday, then later on Monday at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, he had a heart attack, lapsed into a coma, and died just after midnight on Wednesday morning. The eldest of 4 siblings, he regrettably saw the other 3 precede him in death, as well as both his first wife Emily in 1968, his second wife Ann in 2006, and his middle daughter Chris who died of leukemia in 2005.

He was a decorated WWII Veteran, member of the 484th Bomb Group stationed in Italy. Mike was a navigator on B-24's running bombing raids on Hitler's oil depots in Romania, completing over 30 sorties. His bomber was shot down and he parachuted to relative safety, being rescued by the Russians. He would later complete his service with the US Air Force Reserve, finishing at the rank of Colonel.

After the war, he completed his education at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, then went to work as an economist at the US Bureau of Reclamation in Denver.

Survived by daughters, Susan Hendrickson of Tempe, AZ and Sarah (Dave) Wolach of Salt Lake City, UT; stepdaughter, Jan (Keith) Giezentanner of Glenwood Springs, CO; stepsons, Kim Jamison of Salt Lake City, UT and Kerry Jamison of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Matt (Savannah) Wolach of Phoenix, AZ and Beth (Phil) Roberts of Park City, UT; and 4 great grandchildren: Zoe and Zachary Roberts of Park City, UT, and Hayden and Ellie Wolach of Phoenix; also, step-grandchildren Elise Giezentanner of Baton Rouge, LA and Jamie Giezentanner of Grand Junction, CO.

Mike was a long time member of the Kirk of Bonnie Brae Church in Denver. He was also a devoted season ticket holder since 1965 of the CU Buffaloes football team.

Colonel Mike Hendrickson was dedicated to his family, church and country....a truly great American. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
