After his military service, Hans started his own home improvement business in New York. He married his first wife, Alene, and they shared ten years of marriage before her passing in 1968. Three years later, he married Virginia and together they enjoyed fifty-five wonderful years of marriage.
Hans and Virginia later moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he spent thirty-five years working as a ski instructor and handyman. Following retirement, they relocated to Denver, where he resided until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alene; his older sister, Elizabeth; his younger sister, Ingrid; and his younger brother, Max.
