Harold Denzil Kelso

May 13, 1931 — January 4, 2014

Harold Denzil (Bud) Kelso 82, of Dallas, Texas passed away January 4, 2014 at home.

Bud was born May 13, 1931 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Denzil (Shorty) and Elizabeth Dreith Kelso. He grew up on the Wyoming Hereford Ranch in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bud married Myrna Ruth Jefferies on October 25, 1952, and was solemnized on June 3, 1967 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple.

He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1949 where he excelled in rifle team competitions. Bud began his 30 year career with AT&T shortly after graduation.

Bud served in the Lions Club, Jaycees and Volunteer Fire Department in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, Telephone Pioneers, Cheyenne Frontier Days Heels, Jackalopes Camping Club, Boy Scouts and the LDS Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

In his later years he earned the nick-name "Grandpa Bud" from the missionaries in the LDS Texas Dallas Mission. His red truck was a regular at transfer meetings and preparation-day activities for several years. Always a cowboy, Dallas tourists would sometimes ask to take his picture to remind them of the "true Texas Cowboy" they met in Dallas.

Bud is survived by children, Ruth Hale (Brent), Dallas, Texas; Stephen Kelso (Lorelei), Golden, Colorado; sister, Marge Gookin (Warren), Dallas, Oregon; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, wife, infant brother, and niece.
