Mr. Harry E. Thomas, of Northglenn, Colorado passed away on the evening of September 10, 2013. He was 76.
Harry Thomas was born on December 27, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to Harry & Elsie (Basham) Thomas. He grew up in the Denver Metro area and lived in Northglenn from 1965 until his death. Mr. Thomas was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend.
Harry and his wife Ruth grew up and attended school together in Wheatridge and Arvada, Colorado prior to marrying on July 31, 1957. They were constant companions for 64 years, including 56 years of marriage.
Harry had many friends and was loved and respected by all. Family values were very important to him. He was a strict but loving Father determined to raise his children to be strong, self-sufficient and patriotic with high moral standards.
Harry joined the Denver Police Department in 1961 and held various positions with the DPD including patrolman, dispatch, property technician and bicycle theft department detective until retiring in 1991 after 30 years of dedicated public service. Notably, Harry Thomas had the shortest career in Denver Police history of motorcycle patrolman. He wrecked his bike on the first day of service and his wife, Ruth ended that aspect of his career on the same day.
Harry maintained a deep love of Colorado all of his life. His ancestors were pioneers; settling in Colorado not long after the end of the Civil War. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Family and friends have many, many wonderful memories of vacations spent camping and fishing in the Colorado back country. In later years, Harry was unable to enjoy outdoor activities and so fed his love of nature by enjoying various television programs dedicated to those past times.
He is survived by his Wife and lifelong love, Ruth Thomas, his Children Christopher Thomas (Sabrina), Cheryl Vosmera, Michael Thomas (Wilma) and Melissa Thomas; his Grandchildren Kurt Vosmera (Veronica), Mark Vosmera (Crista), James Thomas and Sarah Thomas; his Great-Grandchildren Kaleb Rylan, Isabella, Colton and Emmett Vosmera; his beloved Brother David Thomas (Wanda) of Mount Savage, MD. and numerous relatives and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his Granddaughter Erin Vosmera, Granddaughter Amber Dawn "Fire" Thomas and Grandson's Michael Wayne "Hawk" Thomas, William Allen Thomas and Brother Harold Thomas of Anaheim, CA.
