A distinguished graduate of Clemson University, he earned his degree in architectural engineering, laying the foundation for a vibrant and fulfilling career that would span three decades with the General Services Administration for the Federal Government. Throughout his career, Doug was not only privileged to contribute to significant projects but also to meet some of the nation’s most prominent leaders, including Jimmy Carter, George Bush, and Gerald Ford.
Doug was more than just his impressive professional accomplishments; he was a beacon of humor and generosity. His great sense of humor lit up any room, ensuring that he was well-liked and cherished by all who had the joy of knowing him. Those who encountered Doug understood immediately that the title of "good man" was not merely a descriptor; it was a badge he wore with pride, embodying values that resonated deeply with family and friends alike.
A devoted family man, Doug found his greatest pride in being a father. Memories abound of his nurturing spirit and unwavering support as he guided his children through life's adventures. He designed the house in which he spent his retirement, a loving space that stands as a testament to his architectural skill and personal touch.
Outside of his professional life, Doug was an architect at heart in every sense of the word. He passionately enjoyed building things—from intricate model villages to full-scale homes—and found immense joy in creating beauty around him. His interests extended to the lushness of his yard, where he dedicated countless hours to growing vibrant flora that reflected his nurturing spirit. Doug also relished moments spent on the golf course, traveling with family, and basking in the soothing embrace of the beach.
Doug's journey through life concluded peacefully at home in Westminster, Colorado, surrounded by the love of family on August 10, 2024. Though he leaves behind a legacy rich in kindness, laughter, and the indelible marks left by his creations, the essence of his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those he cherished. In our memories, he remains a father, a friend, and a noble soul whose life was meticulously crafted, much like the projects he so passionately brought to life.
