Helen Grace Henthorne Campbell passed away on May 30, 2025, at age 96. She had been living in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Helen was born on December 7, 1928, in Pennsboro, West Virginia. She was the first of Max and Sylvia (Welch) Henthorne’s five children. In 1932, Helen moved with her parents to a homestead near Dubois, Wyoming. Helen was home-schooled through grade seven, attended a rural school for two years, and then graduated from Dubois High School in 1945.
Helen attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie from 1945 – 1949, earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry. In college, she met her future husband, Howard Campbell, in the chemistry department. They were married in 1950. She and Howard moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1952, and then to Golden, Colorado in 1965.
She was a stay-at-home mother until 1975 when she and Howard moved to Green River, Wyoming. There she was the director of the Golden Hour Senior Center for 18 years. In 2000, she and Howard moved to Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Helen’s interests included the American Association of University Women, sewing, gardening, genealogy, reading, and visiting with family.
Helen will be cremated and interred at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado next to Howard. There will be a memorial service at the Fort Logan Pavilion (Shelter) on July 9, 2025, at 11:30 am.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Howard Campbell, her brother Max Welch Henthorne, and her sister Edith Henthorne Knochenmuss.
She is survived by her son Milton Campbell and his wife Kathy, daughter Katherine Campbell, son Roderick Campbell, brother Tad Henthorne and his wife Vendla, sister Margaret Largent, grandson Timothy Campbell and his wife Sarah Sheldon, granddaughter Claire Gould, and grandson Dan Gould.
