Helen was born May 6, 1922 to Raquel Martinez Rivera and Delfido Rivera in Capulin, Colorado. At five days her mother died. Her father had 3 older children to raise by himself, at that he was approached by his sister Guadalupe Ortiz and told him that she would raise her. She belonged to a number of church societies, she received her education with the Benedictine sisters in Capulin which included music lessons. Helen and her family were very involved in the local catholic church. Helen also worked in the Rivera Grocery store where she met her husband William ( Sonny ) Lozano when he came into the store to buy chewing gum. Sonny had come north from Texas to work with the C.C. Camps on several projects in the San Luis Valley. Her husband joined the navy and took his wife and children to California to live. When Bill completed his tour of duty they returned to Denver. Helen was involved in her children's school activities and church functions. Bill joined the army and was a prisoner of war during the second world war. He came home to his family and started work with the U.S. Postal Service. Helen lost her husband Bill in June in l994 and her son John in July of the same year. She spent many good years with her family, especially with her daughter Anna and Albert who would spend all the holidays with her. Since they were both school teachers they would spend the summers with her taking her out to eat, see theater plays and short trips to Walsenburg where the couple lived. Her last four years Helen spent in the Colorado State Veteran's Home in Aurora, where she received excellent care and left many friends there that she had met as a resident. Helen went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2011. She is survived by her daughter Anna ( Albert) Galvan of Walsenburg, Andrew ( Bernadette ) Lozano of Centennial, Rachel ( William ) Durham of Greeley, and Richard ( Sandra ) Lozano of Pueblo West, seven grandsons and two great grandchildren.
