Hope Batemanwaldren Richardson Yeaman

January 14, 1911 — August 8, 2012

Hope Bateman Waldren Richardson of Denver, Colorado was born on January 14, 1911 in Cavetown, Maryland. Hope's parents were Richard McVaugh and Blanch Alice Miller Richardson. The middle name - Bateman – comes from her grandmother's maiden name. Walden is another family name, but Hope did not remember whom. Hope went to see her maker August 8, 2012 (101 years, 6 months, and 25 days) at 1:50 a.m. after having a stroke on August 4, 2012. She was greatly loved by her family and friends.

She was the first child born to Richard and Blanch, as well as, the last surviving sibling (brothers George and Paul; and sisters Rachel and June.) Growing up, her summer jobs included picking berries, snapping beans and peeling tomatoes while working in the local canning factory. Her first job outside of the home was working for Bell Telephone Company in Hagerstown, Maryland and Washington D.C. as a switchboard operator.

During WWII, Hope worked at Newton D. Baker Army Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia at the switchboard. She was involved in making the first calls home from the hospital for wounded soldiers.

Hope met her future husband, William (Bill) D. Yeaman, while both worked in Washington, D. C. They have lived in many cities during his military career in the Army and Air Force before settling in Arizona. After more than 35 years there, they moved to Arvada, Colorado for a couple of years before finally moving in 2006 to Porter Place Assisted Living in Denver. At Porter Place, Hope enjoyed knitting prayer shawls and baby outfits for Cherry Hills Community Church Kingdom Knitters.

Hope's husband Bill passed in 2007 after a short illness. She has three daughters: Mary Bent, Barbara Williams, and Pat Hay. In addition, she leaves 8 grandchildren (Mike and Steve Bent; Jackye Whalen, Gary Williams and Jay Williams; Cathi Bosco, Barry and Bill Hay), 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services are being coordinated by Newcomers Funeral Homes and will be held at Ft Logan National Cemetery on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. (Staging area A at 1:30 p.m.) She will be placed along side of her husband.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Hospice of St. John, 1320 Everett Court Lakewood, CO 80215.
