Hyacinth Celestina Medford Cullymore De Gayle, 99, of Panama vacationing in Denver, passed away April 7, 2017.
She was born February 19, 1918 in Panama, the daughter of John and Rachel Medford. She was a graduate of La Boca Canal Zone High School. She married Vincent Joseph Gayle who loved to call her "Momsie Toots." Hyacinth, "Auntie Girlie," "Ma Gayle," "Abuela," or "Tia," were names that her family and friends knew her by.
Her talent as a seamstress was impeccable, cutting and sewing wedding dresses, suits and drapes.
She worked at the Balboa Commissary Annex for years as a seamstress in Balboa, Canal Zone.
Hyacinth is survived by her son, Vincent R. (Celestina) Gayle; grandchildren, Vincent (Holly) Gayle Jr., Giselle Clark, Michael Gayle, Michelle Gayle; and Mark Zwilling; two step-grandchildren, Sabrina and Ricardo Sutherland; three great-grandchildren, Sofia Gayle, Rachel Clark, and Kayla (Wesley) Noble; one step-great-grandchild, Marcus Sutherland; nieces Jacinta Thompson; Marcia (Sidney) Broadnax; Celestina "Tina" (Victor) Anderson; Yvette (Harry) Doty; and nephew Jasper E. (Elizabeth) Medford; caregiver, Anselmo "Sam" (Nancy) Anderson; and Gisella; Angelina Cox. Hyacinth was a mother to, Rafael Perez "Rockie"; Dalys Wright, Norma Wright, China, and Patrick (Violet) Sylvester. She is survived by several grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Joseph Gayle; parents, John and Rachel Medford; and Elena Anderson who was like a daughter to her. Brothers, Livingston Medford "Livie"; and Jasper Medford.
