Ivory Joseph "Joe" Newman was born February 11, 1933 to Dee and Mattie (Harper) Newman and went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2007. He attended South High School in Omaha. In 1949, he started a long career with the U.S. Government, joining the Air Force. Joe was an active duty soldier and member of the reserves until 1992. He then retired, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Outside the Air Force, he still worked for the Federal Government as an accountant and pay clerk for over 30 years. He was incredibly proud of his country and showed his patriotism at every opportunity. Memberships included the Sandbaggers Golf Club, The Native Omaha Club, Golden Gloves Boxing of Omaha, and the Salem Baptist Church of Omaha. He is survived by his three children: Marcus McLaurine and his wife Miyuki; Michael Newman; and Lori Newman; siblings; Maxie Dee Newman; and Kenny Ray Newman; grandchildren: Candace Hawkins; Malik McLaurine; Mikayla Newman; Mizuki Mclaurine; Ciara McAdams; Elizabeth Newman; aunt: Tyree Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
