Jacob Simonian, a devoted engineer, beloved volunteer, and proud Armenian, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Denver, Colorado. Born on December 27, 1930, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, Jacob lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a generous spirit that touched many throughout his 95 years.
Jacob’s early years were shaped by a strong sense of duty and patriotism, which led him to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He honorably served with distinction and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1952. This chapter of his life embodied his steadfast commitment to service, a value he carried with him always.
Following his military service, Jacob devoted 30 years of his career as an engineer with the Colorado Department of Transportation. His work contributed significantly to the state's infrastructure and safety, reflecting his meticulous nature and unwavering professionalism. Upon his retirement, Jacob’s spirit of giving found new avenues as he volunteered for 32 years at St. Anthony Hospital Central. His presence was felt deeply in the Emergency Room, Gift Shop, and Radiation Oncology departments. This volunteer work provided him with a profound sense of fulfillment and community engagement, enriching the lives of countless patients and staff.
Jacob was known for his outgoing and giving personality. He took great pride in his Armenian heritage, a cornerstone of his identity that he cherished deeply throughout his life. Outside of his professional and volunteer commitments, he enjoyed simple pleasures such as taking long drives and road trips and the challenge of wordsearch puzzles from the daily newspaper. Gardening was another passion that allowed him to connect with nature and nurture life. One of his prized possessions was a two-tone green 1970 Chevy truck, which he loved to show off proudly to friends and family alike.
Jacob is survived by his beloved sisters, Esther Baker and Mabel Bauer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication. He was preceded in death by his wife, Keo Simonian, his parents, Misag and Shoeg Simonian, two brothers, Ike and Charlie Simonian, and three sisters, Rose Simonian, Mary Nelson, and Margaret Kidwell.
A graveside service to honor Jacob’s memory will be held on May 12, 2026, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, located at 3645 South Sheridan Boulevard in Denver, Colorado. The service will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. and provide an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to others.
Jacob Simonian’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, selfless service, and enduring love for family and community. His legacy will remain in the hearts of those who knew him and the many lives he touched through his career, volunteerism, and personal kindness.
