James Alan Desserich

July 17, 1945 — February 6, 2024

James (Jim) Desserich, 78, passed away Tuesday February 6, 2024. He died at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born July 17, 1945 in Tacoma, Washington to the late George and Nina Desserich. Jim graduated from Central High School in Aurora, Colorado with the class of 1963. He attended Colorado State University for 6 quarters, and later graduated with a BA in Business Administration from Columbia College in 1985.

Jim began his career as a quality control specialist at the Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Power Plant in Platteville, Colorado. He spent the remainder of his 40-year career as a procurement specialist for multiple companies working on government contracts in the engineering and construction industry.

Jim was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on all Colorado Teams. He also enjoyed reading and spending time with his granddaughters. Later in his life, he found a great deal of comfort in sitting with his dogs.

Jim is survived by his wife, Crystal. They were happily married for 54 years. He is also survived by his 2 children Jenni and Jeff, Jeff's wife, Karina, and beloved granddaughters, Anais and Elena, all of Denver Colorado. Additionally, he is survived by his nephews Greg Desserich (wife Karen and 2 sons), of Wall Township, New Jersey and Gary Desserich, of Memphis, Tennessee.

Jim began his journey with Lewy Body Dementia in October 2018. Shortly after his diagnosis, he asked his doctor how he could help other people like him (others living with dementia). With this goal in mind, his family formed a nonprofit organization called Dignify Dementia in September 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Dignify Dementia at Click Here to donate online..

Per Jim's and Crystal's wishes, the family is not having a service.
