James E. Johnson

James E. Johnson was born July 18, 1933 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado.
Jim had two sisters, Dorothy and Barbara and a younger brother David who died at a very young age. Jim was raised by his Uncle Hohn and Aunt Johanna and grew up in Strasburg, Colorado.
Hunting was a passion of Jim's and began when he was about 8 years old. He was a natural with a shot gun and looked forward to hunting season. Hunting and camping with his sons and was one of his favorite activities. Jim was also an avid sportsman, playing baseball, golf, and skiing. He was also an excellent boxer and placed in competitions in the Welter Weight Championship matches.
Jim had a spiritual side and as young as 10 he knew all the books of the Bible and was learning his scriptures. He announced at age 12 or 13 that he wanted to be a preacher when he was older. He loved going to church and often went by himself as a young man.
Jim met Donna Richardson in high school and decided then that he would marry her. Jim's determination paid off and they were married in January 1953. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he and Donna were sealed in the Salt Lake temple for time and eternity. They were married over 60 years and are the parents of four children, Pamela Weaver (Alma); Kevin Johnson (Shelley); Scott Johnson (Cindy); and Tamera Johnson who preceded him in death. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. "Poppy" was greatly loved by all.
Jim lived a full and successful life, owning several businesses, served a Service Mission for the LDS Church, a Temple Mission in the Los Angeles Temple and served many years in the Denver, Colorado Temple with his wife Donna.. His family was his pride and joy and Jim was a great provider. He had many friends and never knew a stranger. His laugh was contagious and everyone was always entertained when he was around. Jim loved his westerns and promised to tell John Wayne "Hello" when he got to the other side.
He will be sorely missed but near the end of his life he said he had "nothing left to prove" and he died peacefully in Denver, Colorado on July 22, 2013 just days after his 80th birthday.
Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 6705 S. Webster in Littleton, Colorado on Monday July 29 at 1:00 p.m. Viewing begins at 12:00 noon.
