James (Jim) R. FitzSimonds, 89, died Friday, July 25, 2014 after a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Jim was born June 22, 1925 in Antelope County, Nebraska, the son of Ray and Stella FitzSimonds. He attended Elgin Public Schools, leaving early to volunteer for service in the United States Army. He received basic training at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was deployed to the Philippines and the Luzon campaign for the duration of his enlistment. At the conclusion of his enlistment, Jim was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star. After the war he returned to Bartlett, Nebraska and entered into farming with his father. He remained a farmer in his heart throughout his life.
On August 13, 1949, Jim married Annetta Auserod, his "sweetie". To this union two daughters were born. Jim and Annetta moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1959. Immediately Jim went to work for the Coors Porcelain Company and then subsequently for the Coors Brewing Company, where he worked for the next twenty-five years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his three sisters, Thelma Nelson, Mae Carter and Ila Bordato and his wife of fifty-five years.
Jim is lovingly remembered and survived by his daughters, Dee (Jim) Kehl, and Gaye (Dick) Key; his grandson, Michael Sletten; four step grandchildren, Jim (Ang Havens) Kehl, Jason (Fong Hau) Kehl, Scott Key and Amy (Robert) Meneses; and four great grandchildren, Blake Meneses, Mattie Kehl, Violet Kehl and Venice Kehl. He will also be missed by many close friends whom he regarded as family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tru Hospice Community Care and the nurses and CNA's at Wellshire, the skilled nursing facility at Balfour Retirement Community for the incredible care Jim received as his disease progressed.
