In Loving Memory
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Janet Louise Norris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the age of 78, at her home in Aurora, Colorado. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, devotion, a strong work ethic, and beautiful memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Janet was born on March 11, 1948, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of the late Richard Leon Kinkennon and Louise Fern Calvin Kinkennon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Polly and Susan.
Janet married early in life and embraced the life of a military wife, standing beside her husband as he served in the Army. She supported him throughout his 27-year career and with every move, adapting to new places and new chapters along the way. Janet began working for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), building a career of her own while continuing to support her husband and their military life.
Janet understood the value of commitment and took great pride in her work. She dedicated 35 years to AAFES, building a career that became an important part of who she was. In every position she held, she brought confidence, competence, and dedication, taking pride in contributing to something greater than herself.
While her career was an important part of her life, her greatest joy was always her family.
Long before she became a wife and mother, Janet was a beloved daughter. She cherished her mom and dad throughout her life and carried the love, respect, and values they instilled in her.
Janet became a mother at a young age and embraced motherhood with her whole heart. She was blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter, and loved them more deeply than words could express. Motherhood was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she treasured watching them grow.
Becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother brought Janet another special kind of joy. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making memories, and simply having them close. Her family knew they were loved, and her presence created a sense of home and comfort that will never be forgotten.
Janet had a tender heart for animals, especially dogs. They brought her companionship, affection, and countless moments of happiness and comfort.
She also had a special love for collecting dolls. She enjoyed finding new ones, adding them to her collection, and appreciating the little details that made each one special.
Janet found happiness in many of life’s simple pleasures. In her younger years, she loved swimming and the feeling of being in the water. She took joy in planting roses and patiently watching them grow and bloom. Trips to the zoo with her grandchildren created wonderful memories, while a quiet afternoon working on a puzzle offered the simple satisfaction of watching the pieces come together. She treasured peaceful moments on her deck, enjoying the comfort of home, while camping allowed her to get away and enjoy the peace and beauty of the outdoors.
For Janet, happiness was found in the everyday moments—gathering with family, time in nature, laughter, fresh air, a beautiful rose, a day at the zoo, her beloved dogs, her cherished dolls, or time spent together as a family.
Janet is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ulysses W. Norris, three children, James Norris (Peggy), William Norris (Stacey), and Jennifer Arellano (Dion), six grandchildren, Luke (Stephanie), Miranda (Kris), Corinna, Elias, Courtney, and Lily, and two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Aubrey.
She leaves behind a family who will miss her more than words can express. Her absence will be felt in countless ways—in quiet moments, in family gatherings, and in all the little things that will remind them of her. But the love she gave will remain. It lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in the values she passed down, and in the memories she created throughout her life.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
