Obituary for Janice Y. McCummings
Janice Yvette McCummings,affectionately known to family and friends as "Pug", began the journey of life on July 14, 1964, in Denver, Colorado. She was born to the proud parents of John B. Julyé and Lula Mae Cox-Julyé.
Janice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. She faithfully attended church and was a member of Zion Temple Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Denver, Colorado. Although a member of Zion, she served in the music ministry with her sisters and mother in a family singing group known as the "Julyé Sisters" and sang in the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church Choir.
Janice received her formal education from the Denver and Aurora Public School Districts and graduated from Gateway High School in 1982. After graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army in 1982, were she received several awards and medals with the highest being the Army Accommodation Medal for exceptional meritorious service. While on active duty, she met and married Maurice Turner. From this union, her only child Sharmaine, was born on November 10, 1983, in Bremerhaven, Germany. After she completed active duty, she remained in the United States Army Reserve where she met Kraig A. McCummings while on reserve duty in Wyoming. They were married on June 24, 1991 in Denver, Colorado at the Greater St. John Baptist Church. Kraig was the love of her life and they spent 23 years together.
Janice's civilian work history began at Great West Life Insurance Company after separation from active duty. At the time of her home going, she was employed by Cigna Insurance Company in the position of Life Coach & Claims Auditor. She was a dedicated and hard worker in which she received many awards, certificates, and recognition.
Janice enjoyed the simple things of life. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family and especially on family trips and family reunions. Her favorite place to travel with the family was to Jamaica. Most of her time was spent with her loving mother walking and talking about life's ups and downs at the Aurora Mall. The most memorable thing about Janice is her beautiful smile and how she always put others before herself.
Janice departed this life on September 4, 2015 at the age of 51 to be with her Lord and Savior. Although she is loved and will be greatly missed by all, she is residing in her new mansion and walking the streets of gold in glory with her husband Kraig, who preceded in death in 2013. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sharmaine D. (John) Manneh, her parents John B. and Lula M. Julyé, two sisters Joyce Y. (Gerald) Hayward and Melody Julyé Bobo, two nieces, Yakisha A. Julyé-Jones and Alaina Julyé Bobo, one great niece Aniya Julyé Frierson, all of Denver, Colorado, her grandmother Ethel V. Cox of Mobile, Alabama, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
