Margaret Jean Hansen was born in Hebron, IL, on July 13th, 1932, daughter of the late, Harry G. and Marguerite (Mathison) Hansen. Jean is survived by her beloved husband Earl, 4 children all living in the Denver Metro area; Vicki (Stuart) Buchmann, Grant (Nancy) Seavall, Kelly (Scott DeLaurentiis) Seavall, Crystal (Bob) Garland, along with 8 grandchildren; Marguerite & Clara Buchmann, Nicole, Jack & Ashley Seavall, Bobby, Nathan & Marcus Garland. Jean graduated from Hebron High School, IL in 1950, and that fall she went to live with her Aunt and Uncle in St. Petersburg, FL. She attended a two year course at the Tomlinson Beauty and Hair Styling School, which launched her lifetime career until her retirement. Jean truly loved her career as a Hair Stylist.
Jean and Earl began dating in High School. Jean was a sophomore and Earl was a junior. For Jean's 16th Birthday and their first date, Earl took her to the Rivera in Lake Geneva, WI for dancing by the lake. His gift to her was 16 yellow roses and a mirror and hair brush set. They continued to date until Jean's High School graduation and her departure for Florida.
Following Earl's graduation in 1949, he went to 2 years of college in Chicago, IL but he still did not know what he wanted to do with his life. So in 1951, he enlisted in the USAF for 4 years as a Dental Assistant stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, near San Antonio, TX.
Jean and Earl did not date for about 3 years. In 1952, Jean wrote a couple of letters to Earl and he replied. Soon Earl was tagging along on training flights to Florida on weekends. Jean & Earl went to dances, ocean beaches, sports events, and local sightseeing.
Jean (age 21) and Earl (age 22) were married on Sept 18th, 1953, at the Hebron Methodist Church in Hebron, IL, with a large, evening ceremony and dinner in the Church parlor.
After a one week honeymoon in Minnesota & parts of Canada, they returned to San Antonio, TX, where Jean continued her career as a Hair Stylist. She as very talented. Her employers sent her to continue her beauty training in New York City and Chicago. In 1955, after Earl's military duty he entered the Dental School at Creighton U, in Omaha, NE. Jean worked at Brandis Department Store in the Beauty Salon. She had many dedicated customers. They bought a new home in Council Bluffs, IA where they lived until 1961.
In 1961, Vicki was born and Earl celebrated his graduation from Creighton Dental School. Then off to Chicago where Earl attended the University of IL and Jean continued her Hair Styling career. In 1963, Earl graduated with his degree in Orthodontics and a Master of Science Degree. They picked Denver, Colorado to be their new home. By 1965, Jean & Earl had designed and were building their home on W. Yale Ave in Denver. This is where their family grew; Grant born in 1966, Kelly in 1969 & Crystal in 1971.
Jean was a dedicated Wife, Mother and community member. At this time Jean's hair stylist career was put on hold and her new focus was on the children's schools, PTA, Girl Scouts, serving on various Boards, working with the Republican caucus and supporting various political candidates.
For 38 years Jean was beside Earl helping him in the front office of his Orthodontic practice and helping to build his business. She served as the President & Past President of the Women's Auxiliary Colorado Dental Association from 1977 – 1979. She loved promoting Dental health in the community and traveling with Earl to various Dental events and meetings.
In 1979 Jean & Earl made the move to Littleton and the Bow Mar South community to live on Tule Lake Drive. For 27 years the Seavall family enjoyed the community; the children grew up, attended local schools, various colleges, celebrated weddings, the births of grandchildren, and held Jean & Earl's 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. Jean was very involved in the Bar Mar South community, she served on the Board for the Lake Assoc. and was a founding member and President of the Tule Lakes Investment Club. This home and area was Jean's favorite place to live and raise her family.
Jean was also a dedicated supporter of her 4 children's swimming careers. Starting with Vicki learning to swim in 1966, up to this past July, when she attended her Grandchildren's swim meets. A total of 45 years was spent driving to swim practices, attending swim meets at Pinehurst CC summer league, year round club teams, national swim meets all over the country, high schools and finally college meets at CSU, U of Kansas & Iowa State U. Jean could always be found in the stands cheering and supporting her children along with their other team mates. She served on many Boards and was always in the role of "Team Mom".
It was later, with her children out of the house, that Jean discovered her love of golf. For 41 years Jean & Earl were members of Pinehurst CC. Jean served on the Ladies 9 Hole committee and was best know for her pink golf balls, pink putter, and her keen eye for sinking putts!
In 2006 Jean and Earl made the decision to simplify their life and move to Saint Andrews Village in Aurora. This was a difficult move with so many years of memories and memoirs. Once moved and settled in their new home, Jean & Earl became the spoke persons for St Andrews Village. They were featured in print and TV commercials. Jean loved her life and her new friends at Saint Andrews Village. Her last pictures were taken in July 2011 for a sales brochure in which she graced the cover.
In the spring of 2008, Jean was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It was in a very advanced stage and her prognosis was not good. After 6 chemotherapy treatments, hospital stays and physical therapy, she was diagnosed as "cancer free". Unfortunately by late summer of 2010 the Lymphoma had returned and Jean only received half of her planned chemo treatments because of kidney damage. In Nov 2010, she started her 3 visits a week for Dialysis. Jean was determined to again conquer her challenges and was getting better. However, by April of 2011 a small spot of cancer was found during a PET scan. She then opted for concentrated radiation treatments. In Sept one final chemotherapy treatment put her in the ICU of the hospital for 3 weeks. Jean returned to the Skilled Care Unit of St Andrews Village for 3 weeks of therapy and home to Earl for only 3 additional weeks. On Nov 11th she returned to the hospital, where she spent her final 35 days. Jean's family, with the help of hospice, was able to honor her request of returning home to the Skilled Care Unit of St Andrews Village where she passed on Saturday, Dec 17th at 9:08 pm. She was surrounded by Earl, Vicki & Stu, Grant & Nancy, Kelly & Scott, Crystal & Bob and her sister, Carol.
Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!
