Jeanette Syverson, age 79, departed this life on December 15, 2011.
Jeanette LaVonne Mahlen was born to Elmer and Hazel Mahlen on March 20, 1932 in Webster, South Dakota. She spent her childhood on a farm north of Roslyn, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She graduated from Roslyn High school in 1950 and attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She taught school for two years. On March 7, 1953 she was united in marriage to Sidney Syverson at Fron Lutheran Church.
To this union four children were born (all having July birthdays). Pamela Kingston of Commerce City, Colorado; Steven Syverson (Vickie) of Littleton, Colorado; Peggy Heittich (Neil) of Pierre, South Dakota; and an adopted daughter, Debbie Peasley of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by one son, Scott; her parents; sisters, Violet and Lois; and one brother, Curtis.
Sidney and Jeanette owned and opperated several bulk gasoline businesses in Colorado, South Dakota and Iowa. Their family were regular church members. She was involved in church and community activities, having taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. One of her main interests was Early Childhood Education, having and teaching children. While they resided in Aberdeen, South Dakota she did substitute teaching and served on the board of Aberdeen Christian Women's Club.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
After her children were raised she attended classes at Red Rocks Community College and was employed twenty-five years at Christian Child Care Centers. Presently a member of Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Sidney, of Aurora, Colorado; brother, Virgil of Watertown, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, December 27th.
