JENNIE WALKER DONALDSON
Jennie Walker Donaldson passed away April 4, 2012, at the Stratford at the Flatirons in Broomfield, Colorado. Services will be held Tuesday, April 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Baptist Church, Brighton, Colorado, with Dr. Gary Randall presiding. She will be intered at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Jennie was born March 6, 1918 to parents Guy and Elizabeth(Barringer) Walker in Richfield Springs, NY. She graduated from Richfield Springs High School in 1936. She enrolled in Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Troy, NY, and received her RN degree in 1939. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital until she volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1942. She served as a nurse with the rank of Lieutenant at the Navy Hospital in Norfolk, VA, and San Diego, CA. She served at the U.S. Navy Hospital in Hollandia, New Guinea for 18 months. She left active duty in March 1946.
She married Dr. J. D. Donaldson, Jr, in August 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. The couple moved with their infant son, David, to Lubbock in 1948.
She volunteered regularly to work with handicapped and disabled children. She was a member of the Lubbock Junior League and of the Lubbock Medical Society Auxillary.
She is preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter; parents; sisters, Dorothy Stanburg, and Bertha Marks; brother Gordon. Survivors include son David and wife Kay of Brighton, Colorado; granddaughter Tracy Donaldson of Northglenn, Colorado; sister Emily Bartlett of San Diego, California.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Lubbock Meals-on-Wheels, Hospice of Lubbock, or Family Hospice in Boulder, Colorado.
