Jenny Melly Hernandez

Jenny Melly Hernandez, a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Godmother, Sister, Friend, and Neighbor, passed away leaving a legacy of profound love and cherished traditions. Born on March 23, 1943, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Isidro and Mary Gabaldon, Jenny’s first language was Spanish, and she proudly learned English when she started school. As a young girl, her family moved from Pueblo, Colorado, to settle in Brighton, Colorado, in the early 1950s.

It was at a local dance that Jenny met the love of her life, Cruz Hernandez. The two were wed on May 13, 1961 and spent a lifetime building a large, vibrant family. Jenny was a woman of strong work ethic and vibrant spirit, her heart and love she shared, knew no boundaries. Her very first job was as an Avon Lady, followed by B&R Plastics, then years of dedication at Scotts Liquid Gold where she eventually retired from in October 2007—a milestone she famously celebrated with her very first shot of tequila.

Jenny’s true joy was her home and her family. She loved going for long walks, shopping trips, and could often be found watching endless Hallmark Christmas movies, no matter the season. She was legendary in her family for her incredible homemade bread and her famous red chile, which brought everyone together around her table.

 Jenny was reunited in peace with her parents, Isidro and Mary; her brother, George; her sister, Nancy; and her beloved son, Donald.

Her enduring love and warmth will be carried on by her husband, Cruz; her children, Ray (Bernadette), Jeff, Debbie (Nick), Brenda, Kelly, and Sugar; her 10 grandchildren, Tiffany, Josh, Dominique, Dezarae, Ray Jr., Alexandra, Adrian, Celina, Britany, and Bernadette Rae; her 20 great-grandchildren; and her surviving siblings, Isidro (Marlene), and Bernadette (Ramiro).

 Jenny's bright spirit, laughter, and nurturing heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all who knew her.
