Jeremy’s Journey

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness..."2 Timothy 4:7–8

Jeremiah Abraham Norman Burkett (known lovingly as Jeremy, Jay, and Wiggy), beloved son, brother, uncle, teammate, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Denver, Colorado, on June 15, 2026.

Born on April 15, 1973, Jeremy lived a life defined by faith, love, hard work, loyalty, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the people around him.

Jeremy was the cherished son of Joan Burkett and the late Edward Norman Burkett. He grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that shaped the man he became. He was a devoted brother to Matthew Burkett and his wife Priya, and a proud uncle to Saijel, Holland, and Brielle. He was also the deeply loved big brother and lifelong protector of his little sister, Aspen Burkett, husband Ian Legins, and Myranda and Maila.

From an early age, Jeremy’s passion, determination, and competitive spirit were evident. A gifted athlete, he left a lasting impact on the Colorado State football program, where he demonstrated excellence, leadership, and heart both on and off the field. His talent and dedication allowed him to fulfill his dream of playing football professionally with the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, and Barcelona Dragons.

Yet, for those who knew Jeremy best, his greatest accomplishments were never measured by wins, titles, or achievements, but by the relationships he built and the way he loved and cared for people.

Following his athletic career, Jeremy began a new chapter working alongside his mother, Joan, helping grow their family-owned insurance agency. For more than 29 years as a partner in the business, Jeremy served others with the same dedication, loyalty, and care that he brought to every part of his life. He loved working beside his mom and took great pride in continuing the family legacy they built together.

Jeremy believed deeply in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His faith guided the way he lived, loving others fiercely, giving generously, and showing up whenever someone needed him. We take comfort knowing he has been welcomed home and is receiving his heavenly reward. To know Jeremy was to know what it meant to be loved completely. He was the best brother, a devoted son, a loyal friend, and someone who could always be counted on. He loved intensely, played hard, laughed often, protected fiercely, and cared deeply.

Jeremy had a gift for making people feel seen, supported, and valued. Whether you were family, friend, teammate, colleague, or simply someone in need, Jay always showed up. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the family he treasured, the friendships he nurtured, and the example he set of strength, kindness, faith, and unconditional love. Jeremy will be forever missed, forever celebrated, and forever loved.
