Jerome M. Weber

August 8, 1943 — June 19, 2012

"To know him is to love him"

Jerome Michael Weber, 68, died peacefully on June 19, 2012, in Midland, Texas. His funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 26th at 10 am at St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church in Watkins, Colorado.

Jerome was born August 8, 1943, in Pasadena, California to Joseph and Genevieve Weber, the middle son of 9 children. After graduating from Bishop Barry High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, he attended St. John's University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

He entered Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia in August 1966. He served as an Infantry Officer with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam from January 1968 until February 1969. During that time, he was in the field for 8 months as an Infantry Platoon Leader. He returned home to Colorado Springs, Colorado as a Purple Heart recipient and was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal, among others.

Following Vietnam and after fulfilling his remaining military duties, he was honorably discharged in Colorado in July 1972. His desire to make a difference prompted him to try his hand in politics where his conservative viewpoint won him the top line designation of the Republican Party in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District. Although he never held office, his conservative views were well known by all who would listen and even to those who would not.
He pursued a career in sales until he started his own business as a soft drink distributor in west Texas in 1978. His charm and outgoing personality contributed to his success as a private business owner for 15 years in Fort Stockton, Texas. After which time, he made a career move to the Insurance industry in Salem, Oregon until his retirement in 1998.

During his retirement, he could be found piddling in the kitchen, reading the USA Today, working expert-level sudoku puzzles, and keeping up with politics. We could always count on him to tell us, "what they weren't telling you". His true calling was being a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed travelling to see his family and relished the time he spent with them, and could always be found with treats in his pockets. His love of his family was evident to all who knew him and his charisma was undeniable.

In October 2011 during his retirement move to Texas, he suffered a massive stroke and lost his ability to speak. He suffered much during this time, however, still maintained his sense of humor, ability to out-think all who were near, and always kept that twinkle in his blue eyes. His favorite saying was, "endeavour to persevere"…. and he did! His Catholic faith was very important to him and the source of his strength. It is a treasured gift that he passed on to his children and grandchildren, one for which they will always be eternally grateful. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 26 years, Anabel Nieto Weber; brothers and their spouses, Paul and Marlene Weber, Steve and Mary Ellen Weber, Bernard and Barbra Weber, Chris and Vanessa Weber, Jim Weber; sisters and their spouses, Jeannie Weber, Margaret and Mike Bauer; son and his spouse, Michael and Carrie Weber; daughters and their spouses, Sharon and Glen Ocana, Terri and Jim McDermott, step-daughter, Abigail Nieto; grandsons, James McDermott (16), Matthew McDermott (14), Daniel McDermott (12), Ryan Weber (10), Joseph McDermott (8), John Weber (4); granddaughter, Emily McDermott (12); as well as many cherished nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Genevieve Weber; his beloved aunt, Sister Aloysius Weber "Aunt Marie"; oldest brother, Joseph Weber.
