Listen to Obituary

James Carroll Keesey, Jr. was born in Denver, Colorado on January 23, 1954 to James and Helen Keesey. Son of a Methodist pastor, Jim lived across Colorado: in Jamestown, Wray and Denver; and Worland, Wyoming. He discovered his lifelong love for ham radio in junior high. Also as a young person he first began fly fishing and skiing. In high school, Jim played the viola in orchestra. In 1972, Jim graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. He finished his education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating a semester early in December 1975.

Jim met his wife and love of his life Elisa Scoular while square dancing and in May 1982 they married at the Church of the Risen Christ in Denver, Colorado. In 1983, Jim converted to Catholicism and the couple moved to their home in Aurora. Elisa and Jim welcomed their only child, Michael in 1987.

Jim loved experimenting with technology. From ham radio, to early computing and home automation, he was always interested in the newest innovations.

Jim was always easy going and never wanted a fuss. He was perfectly at home at the family cabin outside of Tabernash, Colorado. As a child, Jim remembered going to the unheated bungalow after his father finished work for the day, in the dark of winter. They would build a big fire in the fireplace and quickly heat the entire place. When he finally retired, Jim and Elisa made their home at the cabin before health concerns brought them back to their house in Aurora. As was his way, Jim left an enormous fire built, just ready to be lit. He also left his own dream tech oasis, with satellite internet, a weather station, and a giant ham radio tower.

Jim met his eternal reward August 7, 2025 after a short and fierce battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elisa, son Michael (Tiffany) and one grandchild. He is also survived by his cousins, Joyce, Peter and Jean along with their spouses and children. Elisa’s family took him into their lives and he is survived by brothers-in-law Robb (Donna), Neal (Jean), Dean (Rosemary) and sister-in-law Paula. He had seven nephews, one niece, their spouses and children.
