Jo Ann Knaup Richardson
Jo Ann Knaup Richardson died peacefully April 26, 2014, in Denver after a long battle with Parkinson's disease, 2 days short of her 86th birthday. She was born April 28, 1928, in Beloit, Kansas to the late George and Lila Grotz Knaup.
She grew up in Osborne, Kan., and attended Marymount College in Salina, Kan. On June 9, 1947, she married Daniel Leroy Richardson of Cawker City, Kan., where they lived until they moved to Salina. Jo and Dan were active members of the First Baptist Churches in Salina and Topeka, and both were very involved with the ISIS Shrine in Salina, where Dan was Potentate, and they traveled the world with the Shriners. Jo Ann surprised everyone when she went from homemaker to "Amelia Earhart" and got her pilot's license at the age of 54 so she could land the plane in case Dan's heart failed in the air. Jo was also a real estate broker in Salina and was a constant helpmate to Dan in his endeavors in Salina, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Topeka. Her special passion was her family.
She is survived by a loving and grateful family, son, Tim, of Atlanta; daughter, Rebecca, of Denver; six grandchildren and their spouses, Dan and Eaddy Richardson, Matt and Ann Richardson, TJ and Julie Richardson, Katherine Blair and Daragh Mulready, Amy Blair and Bernie Dvorak, Shelly and Jeff Stowman; 10 great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews who loved and adored her for her grace, courage, humor and generosity of spirit. Dan and Jo Ann's sisters, Pat Ernst and Barbara Bridgewater preceded her in death, as did her parents.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the First Baptist Church of Cawker City. Interment to follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery.
