Joan M. Biays, 81, of Littleton, passed away May 12, 2016.
She was born March 31, 1935 in Riverside, California, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Mae (Hodges) Bateman.
She was a graduate of Riverside High School.
She met Don A. Biays while he was stationed with the US Air Force in California. They married on November 6, 1953. Joan and Don moved to Denver in January 1955 with their son, Henry. A daughter, Kathleen, would be born to the family in 1956.
Joan retired from JCPenney's after a 25-year career as a salesperson. She also worked in the Littleton Public Schools in the Nutrition Services Department.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Englewood.
Joan will be remembered as an avid quilt maker and gardener. She also was an excellent baker and canned many fruits and vegetables. Joan continued her love for cooking and baking by helping the needy at the East Denver Bible Baptist Church Food Bank. Above all, Joan will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After Henry's passing in 2004, she formed a close bond with her daughter, Kathleen. The two would enjoy traveling together to strengthen that bond.
Joan is survived by Daughter, Kathleen N. (Loren Sr.) Richmond; Six Grandchildren, Katherine M. Richmond, Loren J. (Corinna) Richmond Jr., Sarah L. (fiance Royal Shrader) Richmond, Deborah A. (Stephen) Epps, Jessica (fiancé Ryan Smith) Biays and Jeff Biays; Two Great-Grandchildren, Alexandra H. Richmond and Ophelia Smith; daughter-in-law, Marie Biays; Sister, Betty McKee; Two Nephews, Steve (Sue) McKee and Randy McKee; Niece, Michelle McKee and Brother-In-Law, Bill Biays.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Don A. Biays; Son, Henry Biays; Father, Ernest Bateman and Mother, Anna Mae Bateman.
