"My mother always had a great love of gardening. Regardless of where we were living, she always took the time to beautify our home with plants when I was a kid. She would almost always start her plants from the smallest of clippings growing them into a veritable forest. When I was about 11 years old she brought home two small clippings of a ficus, no more than a couple of twigs each with two sorry looking leaves. By the time I was in my 20's those clippings were a 7ft tall little tree that was flowering and fruiting. ( I had no idea that figs were a ficus.) I am happy to say that this love of plants is something that we shared and has greatly influenced. From environmental awareness to gardening to my career choices (I'm a Certified Herbalist and have worked as a landscaper), it was my mother who inspired my love of all things green. I used to always say she had a green arm and while I find myself preferring to start my plants from cuttings as well, I have merely a green thumb and often needed her advise."Dear mom, may you rest in peace."
