Joe D. Kraus, a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Aurora, Colorado on January 6, 2026. Born on February 18, 1962 in Edmonton, Canada, he was a man who exhibited remarkable resilience and an unwavering positive spirit, even through the challenges he faced with his health.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2004, Joe approached each day with a smile and an infectious positivity that inspired those around him. His journey became even more challenging as he battled cancer, yet he continued to radiate joy, finding reasons to smile when others could not. His determination and strength, coupled with his warm nature, left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe was a kind, generous, and spontaneous spirit, who approached life with a quiet humor that brightened the everyday moments. He had a love for learning, pursuing a diverse education path that included studies in criminal justice and seminary with aspirations of making a difference as a detective and a priest.
Throughout his life, Joe cherished adventure and the great outdoors. He found joy in skiing and once undertook the remarkable feat of biking from Colorado to Wyoming. Sports remained a cherished interest, with a heart beating for the home teams, particularly the Denver Nuggets and the Denver Broncos.
However, it was his deep love for family that shaped his greatest legacy. Joe proudly celebrated 25 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Vera, whom he referred to endearingly as "my wife." His commitment to Vera and acceptance of his stepdaughter, Rena, reflected his caring nature and capacity for love. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Maya, with whom he shared countless special moments.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Vera; stepdaughter Rena; granddaughter Maya; sister Ann (Paul); and brother Matthew (Ulysses). He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mary Ellen Kraus, who will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of Joe's life will take place on January 21, 2026, with a viewing from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM and a gathering thereafter at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro in Denver, Colorado.
The world has lost a remarkable man, but the legacy of his love and light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were graced by his presence. Joe D. Kraus will always be remembered as a beacon of hope, a cherished partner, and a caring friend who found joy in the simplest of moments.
