Joe C. Tanner, aged 87, died peacefully on September 1, 2017 in Denver, Colorado. Joe was born September 16, 1929 in La Animas, Colorado to Robert Tanner and Simone Brito.
Joe was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War, receiving two purple hearts. Joe fought numerous battles and helped many in the war. He was a proud and courageous soldier.
Joe loved and was married to Jennie G. Tanner for 66 years. Joe was strong in body, in spirit, and in commitment. He was self-made and self-reliant evident from his skill with every kind of tool that could fashion wood or metal, brick or cement.
Joe was loyal and faithful to the important people in his life. This was observed in the way he steadfastly maintained ties with his childhood friends and family from Las Animas, Colorado where they grew up through the weddings, holidays, and funerals that mark the arc of life. Joe could always be counted on to be there.
There are legions of people who call Joe Tanner a friend.
Joe was never stingy. Though he was a child of the Depression who understood the value of a dollar and the importance of saving, he expressed his generosity with his spirit. He was generous to a fault, a pussy cat at heart, and yet he sugar-coated very little.
Joe loved a good joke, including every imaginable kind of ethnic joke. Yet his humor was never mean spirited, nor designed to hurt or humiliate. He treated anyone of any station with the utmost respect and kindness.
He will be missed by many and remembered by all who knew him.
