Listen to Obituary

Joseph “Joe” Wesley Vickrey. Born November 5th 1957 Denver, Co, Passed February 3rd,2026 Aurora, CO At age 68.

Joey was born at Fitzsimons Army Medical Hospital to A/1C Robert and Mrs. Edonisa Vickrey, joining his brother, Bobby to complete their family. The boys began their school years at Peoria Elementary School. They also attended Paris Elementary, Park Lane Elementary, Montview Elementary, North Middle School and Aurora Central Highschool. Graduating in the class of 1975. (Even though the boys were 13 months apart, being stationed in Texas when Bobby should have started school, his birth date disqualified him from being able to start. When transferred back to Colorado, both boys started the same year, so many thought they were twins.) Joe enjoyed school, but felt there were other challenges he wanted to address, so he didn’t always reach his full potential academically grade wise. He was active in little league baseball, Rams football, bowling and golf, and carried each one of those forward into his adult years. Joe always had a “project” going, being it something to do with engineering, refurbishing cars, drilling bowling balls, remodeling homes, coaching kids or adults in various sports or working on political campaigns. His various occupations also covered each of the above and more. He worked at one time or another at every bowling ally in Aurora and other cities too, he worked for Raytheon designing medical equipment, for a company designing equipment for mobile homes and trailers, was an outstanding recruiter for the oil and gas industry including overseas assignments for his people. In his later life he worked as an inspector for a property management business dealing with HOA rules. IN his spare time, he worked for the City of Aurora at Aurora Hills Golf Course, and had been at different bowling pro shops for probably over 50 of his 68 years. He was the Secretary of the Seniors Golf League at Springhill Golf Course. Bowling was his first love: he was a PBA member etc., bowling in many leagues, local tournaments, national tournaments, coaching and mentoring. Joe loved the outdoors, was a hunter using both rifle, shotgun and bow and arrow, a fisherman and a loyal tourist of National Parks. Joe was a family man: his first wife Leila Dalton and he had a daughter, Valerie, who now resides in Colby, Kansas with her three daughters, Emma, Anna, and Abigail. Emma has three children, Hanalora, Daniel and Gabriel. His second wife Debra, brought three children to their marriage, John Williams, Erik (Emily) Johnson, Brittney (Eric) Stoerger, Erik has two daughters, Nora and Claire, Brittney has a daughter and a son, Kate and Declan. So, Joe was a dad a granddad and a Great Granddad. He is also survived by his mother, Edonisa “Eddy” Vickrey which qualified him as part of a five-generation family. Also surviving is his brother, Robert (Bobby) who lives in Cordova, NE along with several nieces, nephews and cousins and two aunts.

Joe loved people any and all ages… he could visit with anyone, about anything. He learned that from his dad.

He loved this saying by Randy Travis- It’s not what you take with you when you leave this world behind you, but what you leave behind when you go.

HE LEFT A BIT OF HIMSELF WITH EACH ONE OF US IN HIS LOVE OF LIFE.
