John Francis Smith

John Francis Smith , 88, of Denver, passed away December 22, 2014.

He was born May 15, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of John and Annastacia (Taylor) Smith.

At the age of 17, John joined the navy and served on the Natoma Bay Aircraft carrier, the 2nd most decorated ship in it's class. After the war, he went on to graduate from engineering school in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as an engineer at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Illinois and met his future wife, Audrey Cecilia Gunder, both dance instructors at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They were married December 16, 1951 in Los Angeles, CA. John & Audrey moved their family to Denver, Colorado in 1954 where he began his 36 year career in insurance with the Howard Life Insurance Company, culminating with the position as Director of Agency.

He was an avid golfer and world-traveler, and will be remembered for his strength, jolly sense of humor, the ongoing love and support he provided for his family, and his love of green chile and tabasco sauce.

He is survived by his Wife, Audrey Cecelia Smith; Daughter, Terresa Ann (Daniel) Clint; Three Sons, John Patrick Smith, Daniel Creighton (Arleen) Smith, Thomas Matthew (Mary) Smith; Two Granddaughters, Annalis C. Clint, Jessica Rose Smith.
