John Michael Gilbert, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 14, 2025, in his home in Colorado Springs, surrounded by family. Born on July 3, 1948, in Radford, Virginia, John embodied a spirit that was larger than life, a sparkle that touched everyone he encountered during his remarkable journey of 77 years.

A dedicated salesperson, John spent over 60 years mastering the art of connection and persuasion, able to sell anything with his wit and charm. His personality was a delightful blend of humor, intelligence, and a touch of stubbornness. Known as the class clown, he could light up a room with laughter and loved infusing every conversation with a bit of sarcasm. John's determination was unmistakable; he approached life's challenges with a persistent spirit, showing his caring nature in both subtle and profound ways.

Among his many passions, John found joy in singing and playing the guitar, often filling his home with music that resonated with his zest for life. His love for travel took him to beautiful locations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, and Mexico, where he cherished memorable experiences and created lasting stories. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including the comfort of good coffee and enriching conversations with friends and family. A testament to his sweet tooth, he always kept cookies and hard candy on hand, and he did not offer it to anyone.

Reflecting on his life, John took immense pride in his accomplishments. He remained sober for 39 years, a journey that not only transformed his own life but also allowed him to support countless others as a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous. His commitment extended past his sobriety; he was blessed to share 39 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Anita, and found immense joy in raising their daughters, Chelsea and Moriah. John will be remembered as a loving father and a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Kate, Shaylee, Bryce, and Jonathan, who were his pride and joy.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shayla Gilbert, whose memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. John’s passing from COPD ended a long and challenging battle, but his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength will forever be cherished.
