John Darnel Golgart

March 7, 1947 — May 31, 2025

Lakewood, Colorado

John (Darnel) Golgart was born March 7th, 1947, in Akron, Colorado to John and Marian Golgart. While many knew him as 'John' the family always called him 'Darnel'. John loved his horses, cruiser motorcycles (back in the day) and his exquisite taste in trucks to pull those horses and trailers!

John grew up on a ranch in Akron, Colorado until he was 6 years old and this is where his love for horses and cowboy hats began. His family then moved to the big city and landed in Denver in 1953. In 1958 John's parents, John Senior and Marian had a new home built in Englewood, CO. This is where John Jr. grew up until he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965.

Shortly after graduating high school, John was drafted into the Army at the age of 18. He was stationed outside of Nuremberg Germany, where his oldest daughter Sonja (Sunny) was born in 1967.

When John returned from active duty, he worked in management positions at Wyatts Cafeteria and the family's auction (Federal Auction), before starting his career at Safeway where he retired in 2010.

On May 31st, 2025, John died at the age of 78 from heart failure. He was working in his yard at home, eagerly setting up his gazebo with the neighbor for additional seating for summer entertainment. At John and Michelle's, you never needed a reservation as their patios were open year around for an ice-cold beer or one of John's specialty homemade margaritas. John never met a stranger and was loved by many! If you knew John, you most likely shared some great conversations on his patio as many family members, friends and neighbors would show up anytime for "Patio Happy Hour."

John is survived by his wife Michelle, his sister Debra (Debbie) Jones, his daughters Sunny (Stephen) Shepherd, Shelly Golgart (Chris Marcilliott), 5 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 4 great-grandsons, 1 nephew, 2 nieces, several great nephews and nieces, 3 sister in-laws and 1 brother in-law.

We will miss you dearly, John, Darnel, Daddy.
