John T. Hefton

John T. "Jay" Hefton, 85, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016. Jay was the devoted husband of Shirley A. Hefton, who passed away December 8, 2016. They were married 63 years.

He was born to Lester and Lillian (Campbell) Hefton on February 10, 1931 in Arma, Kansas. He moved to Colorado with his parents and one sister at three years of age. He married Shirley A. Minion on December 28, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico.

Jay served in the United States Army as an MP from 1951 to 1953 in Germany and France. After his discharge, he went to work for Western Electric and retired January 1, 1987 after nearly 32 years of service. In retirement, he worked for several mobile home parks and did odd jobs, mostly for seniors.

Jay was a member of the East Boulder Baptist Church, the Senior Faith and Fun Club of East Boulder Baptist Church, and the American Legion. He was a past member of the Tri City Elks Lodge and the Louisville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Shari A. (Tim) Hibberd, grandchildren, Paul (Amber) Hibberd and Nicole Hibberd, great-grandchildren, Lauren Hibberd and Devon Hibberd, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Patricia Ann Watson and Sharon Sherman as well as his daughter, Sheryl Hefton.

A memorial service will be held for Jay and Shirley at the East Boulder Baptist Church, 7690 East Baseline Rd., Boulder, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 10:30 am with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the East Boulder Baptist Church, Honor Flight of Denver or Northern Colorado, or the American Cancer Society.
