Listen to Obituary

Dec 6, 1933 - Sep 11, 2025

John Louis Hirst passed away peacefully with his loving daughter and son-in-law at his side on September 11, 2025 at the age of 91. A devoted husband to his late wife, Ingrid, John was a man of deep faith and wonderful humor. He was known for his kindness to all who crossed his path. His love for his family was deep; he instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, kindness, and the call to charity of those less fortunate.

John graduated from Colorado College in 1956 with a B.A. in Business Administration and worked in the insurance industry his entire career. He was a prolific gardener who took great pride in his flower and vegetable gardens. He loved playing board games and cards and dearly missed these activities when macular degeneration robbed him of his sight. Despite his small size, rest assured, John never missed a meal and certainly never passed up a donut or 2, if available. He loved to travel and enjoyed his many trips abroad with Ingrid.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, David, grandsons Alexander (Erin) and Christopher, great-grandsons Tate Thomas and Brooks John David, sister Gloria (John), brother John Ben (Leslie), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ingrid, and son, Thomas, parents Edgar and Virginia, brothers Alan and Kent (Holly) and sister, Cynthia. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity dear to your heart.
