John Lewis Weston, Sr.

July 31, 1931 — October 31, 2012

Obituary of John Lewis Weston, Sr.

The beginning-

John was born July 31, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida to John and Marie Weston. He was the first son, followed by Charles Delaney Weston and Joseph Lorden Weston.

John graduated from Stanton Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Following graduation, John joined the United Air Force where he served over thirteen (13) years. After being injured by a bomb explosion, John retired. Following his retirement from the military, he pursed higher education and worked for the US Postal Service. John was an active member of Empire Elks Lodge Number for over fifty (50) years. He served in nearly every office of leadership over the years. Many remember him as THE Grand Parade Marshall.

John and Bert were married in 1964 and from that union were born John (Kroger) L. Weston, Jr. and Shawn Weston. Also, he has three (3) grand children Blake, Katrina and Chance Weston.

John was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for more than twenty (20) years. He sang in the Chancel Choir and held the office of President of the Choir. John served as the Chairman of 61st Church Anniversary and served on many committees during those years.

If there ever was a person who loved life, it was John. He loved to tease; play cards; dance; fish; play sports; an excellent cook; a perfectionist at whatever task he undertook. He was well read and kept up with politics and sports.

The end-

Over the past few years, John's health began to fail. He was plagued with many health issues that limited his ability to be physically active - but God is good. He blessed John with good memory even to the end. Amazing that even though he sometimes struggled with the health issues, he did not complain. Ask him how he was and his answer most often was "I am holding on."

On Sunday, October 21, 2012, John reaffirmed his faith in God, and again on Thursday, October 25, 2012 with his own words he said, "I love the Lord."

On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, John answered the Master's call and went home to receive his reward. His parents and brothers, Charles D. Weston and Joseph L. Weston, precede him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his ex-wife Bert Weston of Denver, Colorado, his sons Jodie Weston of Savannah, Georgia, John L. "Kroger" Weston, Jr. of Safford, Arizona, his daughter Shawn M. Weston of Denver, Colorado; his granddaughters Blake O. Weston of Denver, Colorado, and Katrina Kulhanek of Westminster, Colorado and his grandson Chance X. Weston of Denver, CO; his brother-in-laws Earl (Diane) Greene, Marvin (Tonya) Green, nephews M. Scott Green, Andrew Greene, Travis Greene; Niece LaTasha Green; dear friends Jesse (JoAnne) Howard, Henry Goode, Delmar Mulwee, many friends and extended family.
