John “JR” Michael Ryan, 75, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for a life that was lived with quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a love for family that never wavered.
Born on April 15, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, John was the son of Raymond “Boz” Ryan and Dolores “Dee” Ryan. Growing up in a big Irish, Catholic family, JR learned early the importance of hard work, loyalty, and standing by the people you love. Those lessons stayed with him throughout his life and shaped the devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, neighbor, and coworker he became. They were reflected in every relationship he built and the life he touched.
John was a proud father to his daughter, Jessica, and his son, Jamison. Becoming "Papa" was a role he embraced wholeheartedly. His grandchildren— McKenzie, Morgan, Mason, Max, Addi, and Eli—filled his life with purpose and joy. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines at a game, celebrating life’s milestones, or simply spending time together, nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his grandchildren.
For 30 years, John worked as a delivery driver for Anheuser-Busch. He wasn’t just delivering beer—he was building relationships. Customers became friends, coworkers became family, and his work became something he took tremendous pride in. His reliability, quick wit, and steadiness earned the respect of everyone fortunate enough to know him. When he was not working, JR could be found doing the things that brought him peace —riding his Harley, hunting with family and friends, or enjoying the people he loved. Some of life’s best conversations happened around a campfire, on an open road, or sitting across the table from a neighbor or friend.
John is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Dan) Santi; his son, Jamison; his cherished grandchildren, McKenzie, Morgan, Mason, Maxon, Addisyn, and Elias; his siblings, Roxanne, Kenny, Mike, Cathy, Mark, and Bruce; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond “Boz” Ryan and Dolores “Dee” Ryan, and his brothers, James “Jim” C. Ryan and Patrick D. Ryan. Some legacies are built by the dreams we achieve. Others are built by the sacrifices we choose. JR shared extraordinary bonds with both of his brothers, Jim and Pat. The unexpected loss of Jim forever changed the course of JR’s life. While attending the University of Tampa and pursuing his dream of playing football, JR made the selfless decision to come home after Jim’s passing to help care for and provide for his family. It was a sacrifice he never spoke much about, but one that reflected the quiet character and deep sense of responsibility that defined his life. In the years that followed, JR and Pat became more than brothers—they became lifelong companions. They worked side by side at Anheuser-Busch, lived just a few miles apart, and shared countless miles, memories, laughs, and conversations. Their friendship was one of life’s greatest gifts.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate JR’s life, share memories, and honor the legacy he leaves behind. Because Colorado and Iowa were both such important parts of his life, two Celebrations of Life will be held:
Please join us on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 1:00 until 5:00 pm at Elks Lodge No. 2278, 5700 Yukon St. in Arvada, Colorado, 80002 or on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 5:00 until 9:00 pm at Happy's Place, 2323 Rockdale Road in Dubuque, Iowa, 52003.
John’s life reminds us that the greatest legacy is not found in what we accomplish, but in the people we love, the sacrifices we make, and the countless times we simply show up for one another. His family hopes that every time someone shares a laugh, gathers to watch a game, takes the long way home, spends a quiet morning in the woods, or simply shows up for someone who needs them, they’ll think of JR—and smile.
The miles may have ended, but the journey he shared with all of us will continue in every life he touched. Well lived. Deeply loved. Forever missed.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary team at Intermountain Health Hospice - Denver for the compassion, dignity, and comfort they provided during JR’s final days. Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to make a memorial donation through Intermountain Foundation at Lutheran Hospital to support the compassionate work of hospice.
