John Nussel

John Richard Nussel was born December 15, 1957 in Cleveland, OH. John spent his childhood in Mayfield Heights, OH with his parents June and Robert Nussel, and his siblings, Colonel Carole Farley, Bob Nussel, and Suzie Nussel. Growing up, John was multi-talented and enjoyed playing sports, his trumpet, and competitive chess. He was an avid Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout.

He attended Rice University, Houston, TX where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering while participating in the Navy ROTC program.

John began his career in the United States Navy, attending Nuclear power school in Idaho Falls, ID, Orlando, FL, and New London, CT. From 1982-1985, he was on the USS Pollack Nuclear Submarine advancing to Lieutenant. From 1985-1994 he stayed in the Reserves and departed as a Lt. Commander. Outside of the military, he worked for General Dynamics for two years and just finished 25 years with Boeing Company.

In 1986, he married Sara Elizabeth Schwartz in San Diego where they started their 26-year marriage. They had many moves, including Seattle, WA, Columbus, OH, Honolulu HI, back to Washington and then ending in Aurora, CO to raise their three boys: Scott Robert, Alexander Jason, and William Richard Nussel.

John led a vibrant life, inspiring all he touched with his love, optimism, and deep commitment to Christ. He was devoted to his family and took great pride in his wife and sons. John was extremely involved in church, camping, the Cub Scouts and sports. He enjoyed his music and tinkering with all new technologies. He always had a smile for everyone and never complained about the bumps in the road. He fought a great fight and ultimately won eternal life.
