John Wayne Roberts

August 15, 1939 — April 26, 2025

John Roberts, 85 years old, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and loved ones on April 26, 2025. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and that was where he met his wife Sharon of 58 years. Sharon and John met while he was employed by United Airlines. Following his transfer from O’Hare International Airport, he worked at both Stapleton and Denver International Airports in ramp service. Prior to meeting Sharon he was drafted in March of 1963 and served his country in the Army. During his tour of duty he was based in Okinawa. Following his discharge he was recalled to serve in the Army Reserves for a short time.

In addition to serving his country he was an incredible athlete. He played baseball into his 50’s, coached his son’s various baseball teams, and taught his daughter how to keep official score for the team.

He was a true Cubs Fan and in 2016 he was able to celebrate the shared dream of a “Cubs Win” as they won the World Series with his son! Being from Chicago he cheered for the Bears which made Bears/Packer matchups very interesting in his household since Sharon grew up in Wisconsin and is a huge Green Bay Packer fan.

John was also an avid golfer. He shared his love of golf with his family and his knowledge of the game with others. Many times fellow golfers would ask for his advice. He was an airplane aficionado and could identify the type of plane as it flew overhead. He loved taking his children to Stapleton to watch the airplanes take off and land. He was also a bit of a plane snob. Before he’d book his flight he’d look to see which flights were on his favorite airplane, “The Triple Seven.”

The role he took most seriously in life was that of devoted husband and father. Then in 2011 he was blessed with a granddaughter, Addison, and became the most incredible grandfather. He cherished his time watching Addison with Sharon when Chris returned to work. He loved that he had someone to join him on his morning walks and pushed her in the stroller with pride. Even in his last days he enjoyed his short walks to his front yard park bench.

He always put his family first and would sacrifice anything for them. He will be deeply missed and loved forever. May his Iced Coffees forever have the perfect amount of vanilla!

He is survived by his wife Sharon Roberts, son Michael Roberts, daughter Christine (Roberts) Robbins, son-in-law Phillip Robbins and granddaughter Addison Robbins. In addition to his parents, John and Dorothy (Walters) Roberts, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Gladys and William Walters, three sisters: Cherille (Roberts) Beck, Denise Roberts, Zita (Roberts) Patrick, his brother: Joe Roberts, his Mother-In-Law, Eunice Morin, his Father-In Law Frederick Morin, and two Brother-In-Laws: Douglas Maes and Dale Morin.

A funeral mass will be held in his honor at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

He will be buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery with Military Honors in a private ceremony following.
