In Loving Memory of Johnell Luther Johnson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnell Luther Johnson, who departed this life on May 29, 2025, at the age of 89. Johnell passed peacefully in hospice care at the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons in Aurora, Colorado, his longtime home. He was born on March 1, 1936.
Johnell was a proud veteran, having enlisted in the Air Force at a young age. He honorably served his country and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. It was during his time in the service that he met and married his beloved wife, Joyce Johnson, who also preceded him in death.
Together, Johnell and Joyce began their life in Minnesota, where Johnell dedicated many years to working for the City and County of Minneapolis. Later, they moved to Aurora, Colorado, where they built a vibrant life surrounded by family and friends.
Johnell was known for his lively spirit and magnetic personality. He truly was the life of every party, always ready with a laugh and a story. He cherished his family and friends above all else, and also had a great love for a good game of chance.
Johnell's memory will be forever cherished by his loving children: Earnest E. Johnson, Chiquita R. Johnson, Kaylee D. Johnson, Pattreece L. Johnson-Porter, and David J. Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Byron Miles, and a host of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss his presence dearly. In addition to his wife Joyce, Johnell was preceded in death by his sister, Doris I. Johnson-Woods.

A military service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Details regarding the date and time will be announced by the family.
