Joseph L. Cameron

October 10, 1929 — December 5, 2015

Joe loaded his Winnebago and drove off Saturday December 5, 2015 on his final great road trip. He departed Lutheran Hospice at 8:37 AM, thanking them for their caring support and hospitality. He did not mention his direction or itinerary. Our thoughts are that he would be visiting his parents Joseph and Bridget (Doherty) Cameron of Bristol, CT- where his trek originated 86 years ago, and looking up his older sister Theresa Maynard of Bolton, CT, and younger brother David Cameron also of Bristol.

His original entourage was made up of his parents Joseph and Bridget Cameron, siblings Theresa (Ronnie) Maynard, Rita (Dick) Newell, David Cameron, Gary (Susan) Cameron, Mike (Mary Lynne) Cameron, and Cathy (Donald) Day.

After high school, Lenny, as he was called by family and friends, started his own business with a friend and attended community college at night. About a year later his National Guard unit was called up. Once completing boot camp Joe's first big solo tour took him across the briny deep in iron ships to Bremerhaven, Germany to bear witness to a great battle that had taken place. After Staff Sargent Cameron's international travels, he thought of going to a place he had never been, Colorado, to get an education as a reward for his efforts from his previous adventure. He landed in Boulder and attended the University of Colorado, where he met a fine young woman named Beverly Brock from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who, in November of 1955, changed his travel plans forever. Derailed and distracted by her beauty, he navigated from education to family life in Denver and eventually rambling to Lakewood -his travel hub of 52 years. Along the way they picked up a few wandering souls: Daryl Cameron, Scott (Sarah) Cameron, Sue (Rick) Bedard, Doug (Linda) Cameron, Dan (Robin) Cameron, Steve Cameron, Dennis (Michell) Cameron, Dwayne (Mary) Cameron and Matt Cameron. They in turn have gathered twelve globe-trotting characters: Amanda, Melissa, Kelsie, Renee, Emily, Andrew, Molly, Shannon, Adam, Seth, Jenny, and Ryan, who in turn found a few adventure seeking creatures as well: Eva, Cameron, and Jackson.

We will all be caravanning to St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7240 W. 12th Ave. Lakewood, CO, 80214 on Monday December 21, 2015 for a viewing @ 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral @ 10:30 AM. Any and all travelers who've crossed paths with our soft spoken road warrior are welcome. A private (First Class only) bon voyage will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery later that afternoon.

Godspeed.
