Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph J. Peery, who departed this life on October 6, 2025, at his residence. He was born on September 29, 1941, in Fairview, Mississippi, and lived a life rich with love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Joseph dedicated over 23 years of his life to the Chicago Transportation Authority, and many other jobs where he worked tirelessly before retiring to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He was a man of many talents who graduated from Dunbar High School and further pursued his passion by attending Welding Trade School. Joseph was not just defined by his career; rather, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, great grandfather who found his greatest joy in the company of his loved ones.

Family was the cornerstone of Joseph's lifetime. He always looked forward to spending time together, especially during holidays when the laughter and warmth would fill our home. His energetic spirit and love for engaging conversations made him a delightful presence in any gathering. Joseph found immense pleasure in simple pursuits—gardening in his backyard while watching hummingbirds and other wild life and traveling to new places to create unforgettable memories, and sharing his love for fishing and skiing with his grandsons. These moments were not just hobbies; they were expressions of his deep commitment to family and the connections that enriched his soul.

Joseph leaves behind his beloved wife, Nola Peery of 65 years, his daughter Monica Cowan (and her husband, Michael Cowan), and his cherished grandchildren, Dirk Cowan and Zack Cowan, along with Zack's wife, Lauren, and his great granddaughter, Nora. This vibrant family is a testament to Joseph’s legacy of love and togetherness.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Peery, and siblings including his sister and brothers, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will surely miss his warmth and spirited conversations.

As we remember Joseph, we honor a man who found pride in every moment spent with his family, believing that being surrounded by those he loved was one of life’s most significant accomplishments. He will be deeply missed but will always remain in the hearts of those he touched.

He was also a proud member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church for 21 years.

A viewing will be held on October 16, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Metro in Aurora, Colorado.
