Funeral services in Denver, CO are planned for Juanita P. Herrera. She completed her journey on September 1, 2017.
Juanita was always a Labor Union Organizer at heart, and it is appropriate that she chose Labor Day weekend to be at peace.
In addition to being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Sister-in-law, Godmother and Comadre, she was also a Farmworker and a Union and Boycott Organizer for the United Farmworkers.
Juanita was the Head Cook for St. Joseph's School, St. Rose of Lima School and for Denver Public Schools. In addition, for many years she worked with the summer lunch program in West Denver providing lunches to low income children.
Juanita was married to Alfredo Herrera for 59 years. She was a role model and a leader throughout her life in her community.
She is survived by her husband Alfredo Herrera, son Alfredo Jr. Herrera, daughters Guadalupe Herrera, Isabel Herrera, Maria Cabral, and Celestina Herrera; two brothers, Jose Carmelo Perez and Porfirio Perez both living in California. She loved her 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Her Rosary will be held at Newcomer Mortuary, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd. Lakewood, CO on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm, with her viewing beginning at 6:00 pm. Her funeral is planned for Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at St. Joseph's Parish at 600 Galapago Street at 10:00 am. She will be buried in the Golden Cemetery near her Father Blas Perez following the funeral. Following the burial service, a reception will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 600 Galapago Street, from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm to celebrate her life.
